Why does my system only have a range of a few metres?

In most cases, an inexplicably small range will be attributable to a nearby source of interference, such as other radio systems or electrical or electronic devices with insufficient interference suppression. If the radio system's range is not satisfactory, it should be tested in a different place in order to exclude the possibility of a defect in the device itself.
